The Good Wife is an American legal and political television drama series broadcast on CBS from September 22, 2009, to May 8, 2016. This series focuses on Alicia Florrick, wife of the State Attorney Part Cook County, who returned to his legal career after public sex and political corruption scandals involving her husband. The series is made by Robert and Michelle King, starring Julianna Margulies, Josh Charles, Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Archie Panjabi, and Alan Cumming, and featuring Chris Noth in a recurring role. Its executive producers are Ridley Scott, Charles McDougall, and David W. Zucker. The Good Wife is a highly serialized show featuring several story bows that carry more than a few episodes, as well as a stand-alone procedural storyline concluded at the end of each episode. The serial plot has been primarily exhibited in the highly touted fifth season. This is a scarcity among CBN's CBS broadcasters, because most of the events are procedural.
The Good Wife won many prestigious awards, including five Emmy and the 2014 Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama. The show of the show's performers has been especially acknowledged, with the role of Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick receiving significant praise. The event has been widely acclaimed for its insight into social media and the internet in society, politics and law. With the current climate of how television shows are written and produced, The Good Wife is considered by some critics to be the last major television network drama, resulting in a full 22 episode season while other events and a recognized future result in shorter. 6-13 season episodes. CBS announced in a promo that aired during the Super Bowl 50, on February 7, 2016, that the show ended in its seventh season. The last episode aired on May 8, 2016.

Production
Conception
The idea to create a series that focuses on the wife of a high profile male politician follows the events of a public sex scandal, conceived by writers Michelle and Robert King after they observed a prominent American scandal of this trait, such as those involving former Presidents Bill Clinton and Northern Senator Carolina John Edwards. The image of a wife stood quietly beside her husband when she openly admitted her sexual or political mistakes, according to Robert King, being a cliche. This picture makes the Kings question why these women stood beside their husbands, and wondered about the events that occurred after the initial announcement. They are increasingly drawn to the fact that many of the wives are lawyers, who have terminated their personal careers for their husbands' professional ambitions. The true idea for this series was first postulated in the weeks following Eliot Spitzer's prostitution scandal of 2008. Like Michelle King, explains:
Production team
The series was created by Michelle and Robert King, who serve as executive producers and show runners. The couple has produced a short-lived legal drama In Justice which aired in lieu of mid-season in early 2006. Previous creators have worked extensively in the movie. Scott Free's production helps to finance The Good Wife and Ridley Scott, Tony Scott (until his death) and David W. Zucker is credited as an executive producer.
Executive producer Dee Johnson added the experience of writing television to the team. Charles McDougall directs pilot episodes and becomes another pilot executive producer. McDougall had previously enjoyed success as a pilot director for Desperate Housewives. The seven executive producers returned when the series was fully booked and they joined executive producer Brooke Kennedy. McDougall left the crew after directing and executives producing the second episode. The series is produced by Bernadette Caulfield who previously worked in the polygamy drama HBO Big Love ; co-producer Ron Binkowski added a post-production experience to the pilot and returned for the first season.
Some new manufacturers added to the crew so CBS booked a full season. Angela Amato Velez joins the crew as a producer and consultative author who brings legal experience from her career as a police officer and lawyer lawyer and writing experience from the Third Watch and Southland drama cop drama. Todd Ellis Kessler, who recently completed production at The Unit, and previously worked in The Practice's legal drama, joined the staff as a producer and co-executive. Ted Humphrey serves as a supervising producer and writer and later as a co-executive producer and co-author. Corinne Brinkerhoff completed the production team as a writer and fellow producer. Brinkerhoff previously worked as a story writer and editor at Boston Legal . David W. Zucker is the executive producer on the show, has been nominated for four Primetime Emmy and one PGA Award. Credits include Assessing Amy , Earth Pillars , and Legal Dog .
As a junior associate at the prestigious Chicago law firm, Alicia Florrick joins her old friend, former lawyer and partner of the company Will Gardner, who is interested in reviving their previous relationship. Before the plan was drawn up, however, Eli Gold took possession of Alicia's cell phone and removed important voicemail. Alicia, now under the impression that Will had no plans, suppressed her feelings for Will, and the workplace environment became awkward when they were around each other. Peter, now released from prison and released from charges, begins his campaign to run for State Attorney against Glenn Childs State Attorney at this time. However, the feud between Diane and Will occurred when Will began to side with Derrick Bond's suggestion. Diane asks you to check on Will and Derrick's past. He discovers that they have a connection at Will's old law firm in Baltimore. At the same time, a new investigator joins the law firm - Blake Calamar. Brought by Derrick Bond, he is determined to uncover Kalinda's past. When Will finds out that Bond has also tricked him, Will and Diane work together to remove Bond as a major partner, but wait until Bond brings in a $ 100 million a year "$ PAC" political comrade. Blake finally discovers that Kalinda has changed his name from "Leela" and Leela sleeps with Peter Florrick when he used to work for him in the State Attorney's office. Alicia knew about the affair that night that Peter won the election for the State Attorney. Now separated from Peter, he developed a stronger feeling for Will and started sexual intercourse with him.
Season 3
Season 3 takes place the next morning after season 2 with Alicia now as a third-year litigator on track to become a partner while having an affair with her boss Will Gardner. He was given an office on the 29th floor, the only third-year litigator with an office on the floor. Peter Florrick's crisis manager Eli Gold joined the company to prepare for Peter's Illinois Leadership campaign, while Alicia acted as a bridge between Lockhart & Gardner and his campaign. Peter, now State Attorney, fought with Lockhart & amp; Gardner from case to case while the company began to get short-term liquidity problems. Diane and Will try to get bankruptcy departments from competing law firms that are closed due to a double recession, and they see that the bankruptcy department is the only area that will survive the recessionary recession. When Diane tried to lobby for a State Civil Defender, she began to suspect an affair between Will and Alicia. However, the affair ends mid-season after Alicia realizes that she has fulfilled her needs in front of her children. The second half of the season focuses on Will Gardner who was indicted for crimes committed at his old law firm and eventually suspended for 6 months. Peter decides to run for Governorship of Illinois and Kalinda's past returns when it was revealed that he has a husband who is looking for him.
Season 4
Season 4 focuses on Lockhart & amp; Gardner's efforts to get out of bankruptcy after rival lawyers Louis Canning and Patti Nyholm worked together to bring them down. A wali, Clarke Hayden, was appointed to oversee the company, but Will and Diane were not happy as soon as he started to get in their way. Trying to earn money, the company offers partnerships with several partners, because they need their initial payment. When debt is cleared, only Alicia is a partner and other offers are pending. Enraged, Cary worked with four other years to start a new firm. Meanwhile, Peter Florrick runs for governor. Eli once again led his campaign, though things got complicated when he found out he was being investigated. Alicia befriends Maddie Hayward, who sponsors her husband's campaign, but eventually turns out she ran against him and Mike Kresteva. In a B plot, Kalinda's past came to haunt him in the shape of her husband, Nick. As soon as he starts threatening the people in his life, he has to get rid of him. The company also hires a new investigator to help him in the workplace - Robyn Burdine. Above all, Alicia returned with Peter, but had trouble pressing her feelings for Will. Season 4 ended with Peter Florrick winning the race as Governor of Illinois and Alicia decided to stop Lockhart Gardner and join Cary Agos in forming a new company.
Season 5
Season 5 takes place after Alicia joins Cary in opening a new company. They took some Lockhart/Gardner clients (now known as LGs), but they had to survive under the harsh attacks of their former ex-employers. After winning the election, Peter is now governor. Eli is his chief of staff and has some problems with Marylin Garbanza, Director of the Governor's Ethics Commission. Meanwhile, a ballot box investigation, filled with fake sounds for Peter, could ruin his career. At the end of episode 15, Will Gardner was shot in the courtroom by his client. It has a remarkable effect on many characters, especially Alicia, Diane and Kalinda, who all reconsider their respective career journey after her death. Finn Polmar was also introduced as a new ASA who befriended Alicia. Alicia decides to part with Peter but will remain married in the public eye, as it benefits both of their careers. Louis Canning joins Lockhart Gardner as a partner and keeps Will's name on letterhead, setting up the company "Lockhart Gardner and Canning"; He and David Lee plan to kick Diane out of the company. At the end of Season 5, Diane asks if she can join Florrick Agos with her client for $ 38 million. Zach went to college and Eli asked Alicia if she would run for State Attorney.
Season 6
Season 6 begins with Cary who was arrested for allegedly assisting traffic worth $ 1.3 million heroin. Diane's offer to join Florrick/Agos stands on condition that she gets the same sound as Alicia and Cary. David Lee and Louis Canning were suspicious of Diane when she declared her intention to retire. Against Alicia's wishes, Eli polled a potential campaign for the State Attorney's office for Alicia and found that she had a very good chance of winning against the incumbent. With Cary in jail, Diane joins Florrick Agos to form Florrick Agos & amp; Lockhart. Cary was released on bail, but when he went to a college reunion out of state, his terms of guarantees were revised, and he was not allowed within 30 feet of Kalinda. In the FBI wiretap, it was revealed that Lemond Bishop had plans to kill Cary because he suspected Cary would change. Bishop also presses Kalinda to spy on her lover, Lana Delany. Diane found the vacancy at Lockhart Gardner and Canning building a contract office and in a cruel takeover, expelling Canning, allowing Florrick Agos & Lockhart to move. During Cary's cross-examination, he took a four-year deal. He was later cleared of all charges, partly because she forged the evidence. Alicia Florrick won the race for the State Attorney's office for the competition, her talk show personality Frank Prady. Law firms are attacked by hackers and five years of online leaked emails in retaliation for their participation in piracy cases. Alicia was interviewed by journalist Petra Moritz in post-puff piece elections in which she was unsuccessful in trying to exploit Alicia's past with Will via hacked mail. When Alicia and Peter worked together to thwart the bad press, she alleged that Alicia was fraud voting by cheating the voting machine. Andrew Wiley investigates Brady's state law offenses against Cary and finds false evidence of Kalinda. Alicia was forced by the Democrats to resign as State Attorney to cover up the fact that the voting machines were actually designed for the more important Democratic candidates to protect the majority of the party in the state senate. Realizing that the evidence presented in Cary's defense is fraud, Geneva Pine presses Kalinda to get evidence against Bishop while pressing Cary to do the same, playing each other's affections with each other. Kalinda manages to copy information from Bishop's computer to a flash drive, and attempts to frame a high-ranking Bishop crew member. Bishop was arrested, but his colleagues realized that Calinda was responsible. In danger, he bid farewell to Cary and Diane, and left a note for Alicia. Trying to find her, Cary goes to Kalinda's apartment and finds it completely cleaned and ransacked: Kalinda has gone on the run.
Season 7
Season 7 begins with Alicia refusing to go to work with Louis Canning and decides to let Peter run for vice president (as a potential partner of Hillary Clinton). Eli hired Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale), but he became Peter's campaign officer who left Eli. Alicia, taking her own case, hired investigator Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Kalinda's absence. Alicia finds a new ally in lawyer lawyer Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) and the two become friends, sharing the case. At the end of the series, Peter will be investigated for another corruption charge involving Murder for a second time as State Attorney by US Assistant Attorney Connor Fox. Peter hired Elsbeth Tascioni's ex-husband Mike Tascioni after noting a conflict of interest. When Alicia had a house party for Peter's mother-in-law, Jackie Florrick and Howard Lyman, Mike came out and left Diane to represent Peter in his trial. Alicia asks Peter to divorce and agree, after his trial ends. After Jason told Alicia that she would never divorce Peter if she went to jail, Alicia focused all her efforts to prove Peter's innocence - especially when Grace said she would not go to college if her father was arrested. Alicia found a way to prove Peter's innocence - by discrediting Diane's husband, Kurt McVeigh, after she made a mistake in the case when analyzing the weapons used in the murders. After a fight with Diane, Alicia convinces Lucca to cross checking him in the pulpit also referring to Kurt's carelessness and an affair leaving Diane embarrassed. Eli began to move political donors away from Peter who noted that Alicia was a man of real political potential even after the failed State Prosecutor's campaign. Peter offered and took a deal where he did not have to go to jail but had to resign from his post as Governor, he also started divorce proceedings with Alicia but asked for one more good - to stand by his side for the last time when he resigned from the Office. At her press conference, Alicia thought she saw Jason waiting for her in the hall and as soon as the press conference was over, she immediately left Peter behind. After learning that Jason was not waiting for him, Diane approached Alicia before slapping him and leaving. Alicia realizes her actions are left alone in the hallway before mending herself and wiping away the tears to go into the future of ambiguity with her relationship with Jason, her career and political future.
Technology and the Internet
The Good Wife has been well received among tech enthusiasts, described by Clive Thompson of Wired as the most tech-savvy event on TV. The event has explored the relationship between technology and law, covering topics including Bitcoin, Anonymous, viral marketing in political campaigns, voice control software, crisis management in controversial mergers AT & amp; T and T-Mobile, virtual conference robots, and NSA surveillance. For example, one of the company's recurring clients is a fictitious internet search company known as Chumhum, which among other issues has faced privacy demands to sell users' personal data to the Chinese and Syrian governments. The Good Wife is the first TV show featuring Bitcoin, the virtual internet currency, with episodes featuring Bitcoin's first broadcast in January 2012. This led to it achieving a high level of fame among the Bitcoin community.
At the 5th season premiere, Robotics robotics are featured on shows that allow litigators to teleconference from home by controlling the tablet on wheels. However, instead of glorifying the robot feature, The Good Wife turned it into a joke with practical jokes and robot problems can be like not being able to maneuver around the office and crashing against walls, doors, and people and low Wi-Fi connectivity leading to buffering and loss of visual and voice communication from people working at home. In season 5 of episode 9, "Whack-a-Mole," The Good Wife displays a version of Reddit called "Scabbit" and how it affects the laws and weaknesses of having "average joe" investigators â ⬠" <à â¬
In season 6 of episode 2, the event handles employee workhorse hunting for social media companies and employee wage arrangements by The Good Wife at Google "ChumHum" and how they work with other companies to improve employee salaries. In season 6 episode 5, Florrick, Agos and Lockhart deal with ransomware on office computers. In season 6 of episode 15, this episode revolves around the case of a 3D weapon weapon that was shot and hit an innocent person. In-depth views on 3D printing and how modifications to CAD design, printer models used, and the 3D printer environment used can affect how an object is created and second amendment laws for downloadable weapons. In season 6 of episode 17, "Undisclosed Recipients", the legal firm's email system was hacked in retaliation for the case with a movie studio demanding "Wharf Master", the event stands for an illegal torrent website. This started when hackers forwarded further emails to Petra Morris, a journalist who was making a fragment of Alicia Florrick's recent victory for state lawyers. This leads to a conspiracy of voter fraud that resulted in an innocent Alicia withdrawing his name from a dispute to the State Attorney's office.
Season 7 deals with topics such as self-driving cars, Google's racial face detection, racial bias in online mapping applications, and the NSA. Season 7 episode 14 discusses a case that reflects the iPhone 4 prototype that was lost with a tablet similar to the ChumHum iPad. Season 7 episode 18 deals with current topics governing the use of drones and their impact on privacy vs. trade discussions.
Reception
The Good Wife has received wide acclaim from critics. The New York Times says that The Good Wife stands out among the more recent autumn shows "and that it is" a mile above anything else that exists at the moment. " In reviewing the first early episode, many critics praised the players' acting talents. The Chicago Tribune praised the show that said "one of the best parts of the show was Alicia's complicated relationship with her husband, who insulted her family with a sex scandal but also appeared to be a pawn in a bigger game played by level politicians high. "The New York Daily News reported, in a performance review the lead character says," Margulies puts a powerful combination of cold anger, confusion and tenacity to Alicia Florrick, wife of a dissatisfied Chicago politician in the new series who was ready to admit him tearing himself off the headlines "while The Baltimore Sun predicted that" With the four [actors] bringing their 'A' game to the pilot, it seems as though CBS could have another winning drama at 10. "There are several objections to long-term success and plot of the show, with the San Francisco Chronicle concluding that" There is nothing wrong with The G ood Wife besides this is a legal series with too many close-up shots to know the views and moments of 'Alicia attagirl' from the empowerment you see coming 20 minutes earlier. " Time magazine ' s James Poniewozik named it one of the Top 10 TV Series 2010 and 2011, saying," The ability to keep growing: that's what makes good great. " The Salt Lake Tribune in the top 10 series list in 2011 The Good Wife ranking, explains" The mix of interesting legal dramas and personal dramas is more fascinating. extraordinary. " AOL named Alicia, the 19th Most Beloved Female TV Character.
Verne Gay of Newsday says, "Like Mad Men , Wife has an obsessive attention to detail: this is a detailed storm, in visual touch, lawless and actors' unspoken to flourish.Nothing looks alien or out of place. Also like Men , this event is very concerned about silence as words, or what not to say (also a form of eloquence). "Todd VanDerWerff from The AV Club : "The series also feels flawlessly researched and lived, just like The Wire. The Good Wife may not look like a logical substitute for The Wire on the surface, but it reveals itself to be a nearly as complex, humane, and profound series as shown before, and all in a network running time that is reduced by a high restriction on the content. " The Guardian (Bim Adewunmi): "But as the 100th episode - part of five almost perfect seasons - the show, The Good Wife is not good If you are looking for a quality drama box to escape from this Christmas family, do not look more He does not smoke, meditates on anti-hero men, and that's not part of the period, but the Good Wife is interesting and intelligent and underrated. "The wali mentions The Good Wife as" the miracle of the small screen " which "has not really been seen on that scale since the days of Cagne y and Lacey. "
As a television broadcast television show that is usually stigmatized compared to its cable rivals, it has accepted what it considers to be an unusual critical criticism: USA Today says that The Good Wife is "the best drama broadcast", while The Atlantic said the show "is giving the best drama on the television network". TIME calls it "the best thing on TV outside the cable". TV Critics Emily Nussbaum of The New Yorker compared Alicia Florrick, the protagonist of the show, to Walter White of Breaking Bad . Esquire called The Good Wife "Best Show on Current Television (Both Network and Cable)," claiming that the 5 season episodes of "Fan Hitting" and "Next Day" are probably the best television episode produced that year, noted, "This is a rare event that started coming alone in the middle of its fifth season, but somehow CBS The Good Wife has been successful." Chancellor Agard of The Daily Beast said, "'Beating Fan' is very important because the extent of contrast with the episode is equally good last week, 'Beyond the Bubble.'" Don Kaplan of the New York Daily News says, â ⬠Å"Now this drama is in its fifth season, a time when most shows go on autopilot or start offering a very special "shark-jumping" episode. But the producers and cast of Iife somehow managed to kick the chess board where the show had been played for years, spreading pieces into the wind and recreating The Good Wife as wrong one of the most gripping dramas on television. Period. "It's named Favorite TV Show by Poll Harris In 2013, TV Guide ranked # 59 in the list of 60 Best Series of All Time.
Rolling Stone describes seasons six and seven as "a study of sprawl, with dozens of stranded characters and a blind alley: Alicia spends the sixth season of the event to run a political office just to end where it begins again." < i> Salon declared that the sixth season was "messy, apparently staying overnight at the end of the season. On the last night, it was hard to say what this season: We watched the election, served in prison, investigation of drug dealers, and the side effects of fraud voters, but it is difficult to gather events into a cohesive narrative. "The seventh season has received criticism for" very uneven [planning], sucking so much vitality and urgency out of the show. " Diversity notes that in the seventh season that â ⬠Å"there are more subplots and segues that, most appropriately, time-filler and worst, eyeroll-inducingâ ⬠and say itâ ⬠is clear that it is time for the show. " TV.com observed that" the obituary for the show had already buried it rather than praising it, pointing to where it was all wrong, or that it was not even really good to start with. Episodes like 'End' condense the arguments a lot. "The New York Times believes that season seven" never shimmered or burned like this series did in its best season, when it was broadcast as the main argument for television for continued relevance in the peak-TV era. legal cases - the show is completely procedural almost to the very end - is still smartly designed and sent quickly, but they feel familiar and less urgent, and more than ever seem to give audiences to viewers about current events, "the farther "pelted by defective players and bad decisions. "
The final episode of The Good Wife , "End", results in a divided reaction between viewers and critics, with much praise as a fitting ending for complex characters with others who argue ambiguity and the absence of a conclusion - especially with Alicia's love life. The ending of the story draws controversy in his final scene when Diane Lockhart dismisses Alicia Florrick for betraying her in court to save Peter from jail. Alicia is then left alone in the hall before walking into the future of uncertainty about her relationship with Jason, her career, and her political life. Vanity Fair noted "Like the famous Breaking Bad tracks Walter White's evolution from Mr. Chips to Scarface, The Good Wife follows Alicia as she evolved into Peter. The Kings claimed the show was "moving in a direction where there is not much difference between who Alicia is and who her husband is." Is Alicia a villain or an anti-hero? It's hard to see her like that after all the good she's done for so many But Will Gardner's entry at the end while humanizing Alicia while also highlighting the idea that Alicia's transformation into Peter has long been coming, "and claimed that" the end of a remarkable show belongs to a previous television age. "Emily Nussbaum of The New Yorker says "it is the end that commands the reverence."
The ensemble performers from The Good Wife have been hailed as "one of the best performers on television, and it's supplemented with stunning guest stars - one way for Kings to show off the benefits of networking budgets." Half the players The Wire passes its aisles, just like other Broadway stars than in heaven, "although at the end of the series the guest stars are increasingly being placed in" The role of wasting time. " However, with the release of male lead Josh Charles (who plays Will Gardner) in season five, Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya from The A.V. The club believes that "the authors of the show really struggled to rebuild the same kind of long-term emotional tale." His departure left a gap that was never fully filled again. " Although reviewers acknowledge that Charles's departure was inevitable (and praised how Will was removed dramatically), they questioned decisions made by writers for seasons six and seven that further injured the show. The depictions of Kalinda Sharma by Archie Panjabi were highly respected during the first three seasons, but Sonia Saraiya of Salon feels that her character ends up being ousted by a highly criticized plotline in the four to six seasons, amid rumors of a rift between Panjabi and producer Julianna Margulies where they did not share screen time for their last 50 episodes. In the seventh season, old stalwarts like Cary Agos and Diane Lockhart are reportedly marginalized irrelevant to the lack of an interesting storyline, supporting promoting new characters such as Lucca Quinn and Jason Crouse.
