The 2008 article for Newsday criticized the American media for avoiding any mention of abortion called Legal & amp; Order: SVU "one exception... willing to take that kind of risk." This season SVU also coincided with the 2007 Writers Guild of America attack by Neal Baer on the negotiating committee. With all the writing staff participating in the strike, the episode ceased airing for nearly three full months after the January 22, 2008 "Unimaginable" episode.

Transmission changes and returns characters

The first episode of "Alternate" reveals that Richard Belzer's character, Detective John Munch, passed the sergeant exam. As a result, other characters began to refer to him as Sergeant John Munch. Season 9 dramatically reduced the amount of screen time given to Richard Belzer and subsequent seasons of SVU continued doing the same. When commenting on the reduction of his workload, Belzer said he was "a little confused" and that "It's like pulling the tonsils off the prize horse if I complain too much."

Toward the end of the season, it was announced that Diane Neal (ADA Casey Novak) left the cast and a few days later it was said that she was fired from the series. Asked if he was blinded by the news, Neal replied, "I do not know if blindsided is the right word.... I have lasted a few years longer than almost any other ADA [inside Law & amp; > the universe] So every year I am like, 'Will this be the one when I go?' Dick Wolf is known for replacing his players regularly, and the fact is, I'm looking forward to the future. "

Adam Beach fully joined the cast as Detective Chester Lake, who has appeared twice on the show. The plan announced by Neal Baer in February 2007 was to portray the detective as a special sacrifice. This is fulfilled in the episode "Fight" which reveals that Lake is a foster child. However, a few days after Diane Neal's departure was announced, Adam Beach announced that he would also leave the cast. "I really enjoy my year at Law & amp; Order: SVU ," says Beach. "Now I'm looking forward to a new adventure."
