Political view

During the 2008 presidential election, Maddow did not formally support any candidate. Regarding the nomination of Barack Obama, Maddow said, "I have never and still do not consider myself a supporter of Obama, either professionally or in fact."

In 2010, Republican Senator Scott Brown speculated that Maddow would nominate himself in the 2012 Senate election. His campaign uses this premise for fundraising emails, although Maddow repeatedly stated that Brown's speculation was wrong. Brown continues his claim in Boston media, so Maddow runs a full-page ad on The Boston Globe confirming that he is not walking and separately asking for Brown's apology. He added that, despite repeated invitations for months, Brown has refused to appear on his TV program. In the end, it was Elizabeth Warren who ran in 2012, beating Brown.

Maddow states that the alleged Trump-Russian collusion has continued beyond the 2016 presidential election. In March 2017, he blamed Russia for the disclosure of WikiLeaks' Vault 7 CIA hacking tool, saying: "Consider what other US agencies other than the Department of Foreign Affairs are most hated by Putin ? That Putin most feels competitive with it? Putin most wants to beat? This is CIA, right?... Intelligent observers say this is the biggest dump of CIA secret material possible ever, and it can really be a terrible blow to CIA's cyber warfare and capabilities spying out, and the dump was released by WikiLeaks. "Regarding the Trump-Russian investigation, Maddow said:" If the Trump presidency is consciously the product of foreign intelligence operations, it is a full-stop national crisis. " Regarding "alternative facts" and false news, Maddow said: "The President downgraded the important press in terms of his behavior as an increasingly authoritarian, periodic leader."

He has explained why he decided to talk about it in an interview: "This is a difficult call... Because it's no one's business, but it really helps me to learn about people who survive, lead a good life, even though they are dealing with depression, so I feel it is the responsibility to pay back.
