History
In 1839, Heinrich Iager bought 108 hectares (44 hectares) of farmland that expanded to 185 hectares (75 hectares) to form Maple Lawn Farms. In 1938, the farm started its short-range turkey operation under the brand name "Sho-Nuf". In 1970, the farm owned by C. Ellsworth Iager and Sons won the Progressive Breeders Dairy Award. This farm was recognized nationally in 2004 for registered Holsteins used in its processed product operations. Ellsworth Iager (1916-1987) took advantage of the cheap POW labor through 1945. In 1986, Iager took a higher ground rent option from developer J.J.M Inc. The fence was torn down and the neighboring Hines farmers were forced to liquidate their livestock due to the sudden drop of grazing land. In 1987, owner of farmland, land developer, appraiser and relator, Ellsworth Iager died. In the late 1990s, Fulton sat among the highly developed areas of eastern Howard County, with water and sewage services, and a preserved western area that uses well water. Greenebaum & amp; Rose Associates proposed a mixed 1168 unit mixed use project for some 506 hectares (205 hectares) of land. In January 1998, Councilor Darrell Drown felt that the zoning would only take one or two nights, and accommodate the developer with an accelerated audience. The first phase of the zonation faced some controversial voices and 32 long-standing hearings between pro-development and rural supporters. In 2013, the Department of Planning and Zoning of the Howard Territory seeks to expand water and sewage services so that the remaining Maple Lawn property can be developed at maximum density. A 7000-person referendum effort was launched and suppressed by landowning lawyer William Erskine, who sits at the economic development agency as well as the same law firm as County Executive Ken Ulman's father. In September 2014, the Iager family hosted Ken Ulman in the remainder of the undeveloped Maple Lawn Farm plot to become "Farmers for the Day".
The homeowners association is responsible for the facilities and maintenance of housing and maintenance of community centers and parks. Commercial development is managed by the "Maple Grass Commercial Owners Association".
