Lambertville High School , built in 1854 in Lambertville, New Jersey, is a former student home from the Lambertville school district. The fire destroyed most of the schools in 1926, but was rejuvenated and rebuilt in 1927 and used until June 1955. The building (as some have said from the city) is a museum since then, on a hill overlooking Lambertville and the Delaware River.
The school closed after the graduating 1955 class because it was too small and outdated for the developing area. Many small town schools were closed down in 1950 throughout New Jersey, as the state consolidated the school district and replaced obsolete schools like Lambertville High with modern, suburban facilities that could serve larger regional areas. South Hunterdon Regional High School replaced Lambertville High and opened for classes in September 1955.
A June 11, 1955 article in The Hunterdon County Democrat newspaper titled "Alumni Gather for Fond Farewell to Lambertville" details the school closing ceremony, which consists of an alumni baseball game, a picnic, and a concert at the school auditorium.
The "old school on the hill" was then used as a place to sell electronics for years, until it sat empty and dormant (albeit structurally intact) for over 30 years, until the vandals started a fire in 1992 that destroyed most of the interior buildings and basically destroyed most of the structure, including the roof.
The school was destroyed in autumn 2012.
