James Stewart is a family lawyer who lives in London.
The son of a Tyrone County farmer, Stewart was educated at the Coleraine Academical Institution in County Londonderry, and the University of Essex. He attended College of Law, Chester.

Legal career
Stewart qualified as a lawyer in 1990, was accredited by Resolution as a specialist family attorney in 1999. A year later he was appointed as partner and head of family department at Reynolds Porter Chamberlain. In 2003 he was profiled in the "On the Verge" series of the Observer magazine. He became a partner in Manches, now Penningtons Manches LLP, in 2006, shortly after being elected a Fellow at the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (IAML).
It ranks as the leading individual in the Legal edition of 500, Spears WMS Legal Index, and in Chambers UK 2011 by 2015.
In January 2009 Stewart was appointed IAML Governor and was invited to become a member of the Times Legal Panel, an advisory body of 100 of the country's leading lawyers and lawyers. In January 2011 Stewart was named in the list of '100 Hot' Lawyer Magazines.

Famous cases
Stewart has acted on a number of high profile celebrities and divorces. His client has included Pricilla Waters (in his divorce against Roger Waters) and Julie Le Brocquy, the award-winning producer of BAFTA Osama . Stewart also succeeded in representing Glory Annen Clibbery in the case of the leading family/Case of Human Rights 1998 from Clibbery v Allan (2002), in which she won on the first and in the appeal. He also acted for successful plaintiff, Kerry Cox, in the widely publicized cohabitation case of Cox v Jones in 2004. His company, Penningtons Manches, represents Guy Ritchie in his divorce with his wife, Madonna.
