History

In 1904, the Law School began as a joint project with the Bar Association of Omaha, with Timothy J. Mahoney as the first dean. The School of Law took place at the Edward Creighton Institute on S. 18th Street until 1921, when moving to a new place on the Creighton campus.

Reception

The 50% middle range of the LSAT score of the full fall class of 2017 that enters the class is 149-155. The GPA range is 2.88-3.62. In this class, the ratio of men and women is 64 percent to 34 percent, respectively. The level of diversity is 22 percent.

Scholarship

Creighton Law offers different types of scholarships for first-year law students, as well as scholarships to return second- and third-year law students. Examples include Dean Academic Scholarships and Frances M. Ryan Diversity Scholarships. About 50% of incoming classes receive scholarships.

Program

The majority of Creighton Law School students are enrolled in the full-time Juris Doctor program, which takes three years to complete. More and more students are enrolled in the JD Accelerated program, which takes two years to complete. A small fraction of the student body is enrolled in the JD part-time program, which takes about four years to complete.

Concentration and degree together

Creighton School of Law offers six certificates and four joint titles. Certificates are Health Law, Family Law, Business, Commercial and Tax Laws; Criminal Law and Procedures, International and Comparative Law, and Litigation. The joint degree program includes a 3/3 law program with a BSBA/JD degree (completion of a bachelor's degree and a JD in six years instead of seven), an MBA/JD, JD/MS degree in Government Organization and Leadership (PURPOSE), and JD/MS in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution.

Clinic

Creighton operates the Milton R. Abrahams Clinic, which offers free civil legal assistance to low-income residents in Douglas County. Beginning in Autumn 2017, the Creighton Immigrant and Refugee Clinic, housed within Milton R. Abrahams Clinic, offers support for immigrants and refugees and runs in collaboration with the Immigrant Legal Center (formerly known as Justice for Our Neighbors).

Activity

is published four times each year. Students are selected on the basis of standing or classroom ability to work in the Law Review during their second and third years. The Creighton International and Comparative Law Journal (CICLJ) is an online publication, established in 2010, serving as a forum for debate and exploration of international legal issues. It also gives students the opportunity to filter their research, writing, and critical thinking skills to create articles.

The Moot Court team at Creighton has received recognition for winning a number of regional and national competitions. Black Law Student Association (BLSA), was selected as "The Most Renowned Professional Student/Student Institution at Creighton University" for the 2017-18 school year.

Important event

Every two years, High Court Judge Clarence Thomas teaches constitutional law courses with professor G. Michael Fenner, JD. His last visit was in February 2017.

Once a year, the Nebraska Supreme Court held a session at Creighton University School of Law. The most recent session was in April 2018. The US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit heard oral arguments in law school in November 2017.

The law school completed a $ 4.6 million renovation during 2015-2017.

The poverty law program was launched in 2017.

On June 20, 2011, Omaha World-Herald reported that Creighton Law School temporarily reduced its class size.
