Debra Wong Yang (Chinese: pinyin: YÃÆ'áng HuÃÆ'áng J? nyÃÆ'ù) is a former US Attorney for the Central District California. He was appointed in May 2002 by President George W. Bush, who made him the first Asian-American woman serving as US Attorney. In 2009, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa nominated Yang for a vacancy at the Los Angeles Police Commission. By 2016, he is listed as a potential choice for SEC Chief in Donald Trump's cabinet.

Careers
He served as President of the American Museum of China in Los Angeles, where he played an instrumental role in the creation of this new landmark for Southern California. Who is a founding member and officer of the first Asian American Bar Association in Chicago, and he has been an officer and board member of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association.
In 2002, the Los Angeles City Council respected him for his long-standing commitment to the rights of victims. The Asian Pacific Bar Association chose him as the recipient of their 2002 Public Service Award. The National American Pacific American Bar Association chose him as the recipient of the Trailblazer Award 2003. In 2004, he was appointed to the Pitzer College Presidential Council of Claremont Colleges, receiving the First Distribution Award from Pitzer College, and recognized by the Inglewood Court as a champion of civil rights.
Who has been a professor at the USC Gould School of Law, where he teaches advocacy hearings. He has also been an instructor at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and an instructor at California Judicial College.
California state judge
Who is a California state judge. He was appointed to the Los Angeles City Court in 1997 and became a member of the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2000. As a judge, Yang acts as a Supervisory Judge for the Hollywood Courthouse. He sits on the Criminal Advisory Committee and the Subcommittee on the Quality of Judicial Services for the Judicial Council of Courts.
United States attorney
Who heads the largest United States Attorney Office outside the Washington, DC Office serves approximately 18 million people living in Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Ventura County, Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo County, California.
He served as Assistant US Attorney for approximately seven years before his judicial career. As a federal prosecutor, he handles violent crime, white-collar crime, international money laundering, arson and computer crime. As Assistant US Attorney, Yang succeeds in prosecuting a number of high-profile cases, including a Glendale arson investigator who was convicted of installing fire across the state of California; California's first federal carjacking case; kidnapping of local real estate agents; and a computer hacker who received the longest prison sentence for computer intrusion.
Yang resigned his position as US Attorney for the Central District of California on November 11, 2006, to join Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has raised the question of Yang's departure in the light of the next shooting of seven US lawyers. Yang's Office has opened an investigation into the relationship between Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA) and a lobbyist five months before he went to join a law firm representing Rep. Lewis. Who denied that there was any pressure given him to resign.
Los Angeles Police Commission
On August 13, 2009, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa nominated Yang for a vacancy at the Los Angeles Police Commission. He will have a role in guiding the department past the end of the post-Rampart scandal approval decree and in selecting a new chief of police to replace Chief William Bratton who will be out. Villaraigosa cites his extensive "law enforcement credentials" in making choices.
Private legal practice
After leaving the US Attorney's office, Yang became a partner at Gibson, Dunn & The Los Angeles Crutcher Office, became Co-Chair of the company's Crisis Management Practice Group and the Investigative White Collecting Training and Investigation Group.
