The law degree is the academic degree awarded for legal studies. Such degrees are generally preparations for legal careers; but while their curriculum may be reviewed by legal authorities, they themselves do not grant licenses. Legal licenses are granted (usually through inspection) and implemented locally; while a law degree can have local, international, and wide-ranging aspects - for example, in the UK, the Legal Practice Course is required to become a UK lawyer or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to become a lawyer.

Histori
The first academic degrees are all law degrees â ⬠"and the first law degree is a doctorate. The foundation of the first university in Europe was the glossator of the 11th century, which is a law school. The first European University, from Bologna, was founded as a law school by four famous law scholars in the 12th century who were students of the city's interpreter school. It is from this history that the first academic degree of physician is applied to a law degree. The degree and degree were not applied to other disciplinary scholars until the 13th century. And at the University of Bologna since its inception in the 12th century until the end of the 20th century, a degree awarded only a doctoral degree, usually obtained after five years of intensive study after high school. Increasing doctors of philosophy to the present level is a modern novelty. At its origins, a doctorate is only a qualification for a guild - which teaches the law.
The University of Bologna serves as a model for other law schools of medieval times. While it is common for law students to visit and study in schools in other countries, it is not so with Britain because of Britain's rejection of Roman law (except for certain jurisdictions like the Admiralty Court) and although the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge did teach canon law to the British Reformation, its interests were always higher than the civil law in those institutions.
In medieval Islamic madrasah, there is a doctorate in Sharia Islamic law, called ijazat attadris wa'l-ifta '("license to teach and issue legal opinions").
