James "Jay" Maxwell Moody Jr. (born 1964) is a US District Judge from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas and former Circuit Judge for the Sixth District of Sixth District of Justice from Arkansas.

Biography
Moody was born in 1964 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1986 from the University of Arkansas. He received a Juris Doctor in 1989 from the University of Arkansas Bowen School of Law. He became a partner in 1989 at Wright's law firm, Lindsey & amp; Jennings, LLP and became a partner in the company in 1994. His focus in the company was civil litigation in the Federal and State Courts. In 2003, he became a Circuit Judge for the Sixth Army's Sixth Judicial Army Division, a position he held until he received a commission for federal judicial judgeship.

Moody is the son of former Judge James Maxwell Moody, who retired from active service in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas when his son was appointed to the federal bench.

On July 25, 2013, President Obama nominated Moody to serve as US District Judge from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, to a seat vacated by Judge Susan Webber Wright, who took senior status on August 22, 2013. Moody's father said he will retire from a federal district court in the Eastern District of Arkansas if his son wins a Senate confirmation. James Maxwell Moody then retired from active service on March 7, 2014. On November 14, 2013, the Senate Judiciary Committee reported Moody's nomination to the full Senate. After the first session of the 113th Congress ended, Moody's nomination was returned to President Obama, who nominated Moody in January 2014. The Senate Judiciary Committee reported Moody's nomination to the full Senate on 16 January 2014. On 12 February 2014, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid filed a cloture on nominations Moody. On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, the Senate voted on a motion to request cloture on Moody's nomination. Motion to request cloture approved by voting 58-34 with one 'present' voting senator. On February 25, 2014, his candidacy was confirmed by a 95-4 vote. He received his judicial commission on March 10, 2014.
