Reception

Ratings

In its third season, Homeland became the first series in Showtime to surpass 7 million total viewers every week. The end of the season, "The Star", is the highest-ranking episode of the series to date, with 2.38 million viewers for the original broadcast.

Critical response

The third season received mixed criticism from critics, with much criticism aimed at the second half. The first two episodes received a Metacritic score of 77 out of 100, based on 23 reviews, but reviews became more diverse during the season.

Tim Goodman of The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the first two episodes of the season restored his confidence in the series, with an emphasis on Carrie and Saul, and that "writing and acting in the first two episodes is remarkable." Robert Rorke from Newsday writes that "premiere third season Homeland provides a powerful episode that fixes a lot of damage done last season to this excellent event" and "In action balancing with development character, the homeland offers something for everyone. The show, as always, is great. "Robert Bianco from USA Today praised the focus after the CIA bombing, and wrote" Results from the change of focus is a quieter return than the homeland tone set when it leaves us but is just as intense, and - when the Danes are on screen - equally heartbreaking emotionally. "Matthew Wolfson of Slate write "Show us the long-term impact of attacks on the lives of these characters, whose deep motivation and fear has gradually been revealed to us over the past two seasons, allowing Tan ah Air to overcome his hyperbolic tendencies and give us reasons to suspend our distrust. "

However, some critics have negative reviews for this season. Morven Crumlish from The Guardian found it boring: "A half-absorbed piece of fiction will leave characters floundering in their mid-arc inaction With no end in sight, though, Carrie and Brody can flounder without me. " Gerard O'Donovan from The Daily Telegraph agreed: "The ludicrous plot controversy from the early episode of this season... it's all a mess."

For the 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards, the players were nominated for Best Drama Ensemble, Claire Danes was nominated for Best Drama Actress, and the series was nominated for Best Stunt Team.
