US

More than half of all countries have a windshield barrier law.

California

California prohibits any placement on the windshield or windscreen that obstructs the view of the driver, with certain exceptions. These exceptions include toll payment tools, shield glare (for those with approved doctor notices) and small obstructions such as stickers placed in lower corners.

Minnesota

Minnesota has strict laws on windshield and windshield obstruction, but they have been under scrutiny because of their vague nature and difficulties for tech-savvy drivers.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire forbids driving vehicles "with markers, posters, stickers, or other non-transparent materials above or next to the windshield... which will obscure the driver's clear view of any way or intersect."

New Jersey

New Jersey prohibits the glass barrier below 39: 3-74: "No one is driving any motorized vehicle with signs, posters, stickers or other non-transparent materials on the windshield, wings, deflectors, side guards, corner lamps adjacent to the front windshield or the front side window of the vehicle other than the certificates or other articles required to be displayed by law or commissioner's regulations No one is driving a vehicle built, equipped or loaded to interfere with the driver's eyes forward and sideways. "

Examples of violations include items hung from rear-view mirrors such as religious objects, fuzzy dice, air fresheners, or electronic devices. Electronic tax collection equipment such as an E-ZPass transponder may also be considered a violation by law enforcement.

Ideally, a call for windshield obstruction is issued in lieu of a more serious traffic violation that will incur points and raise insurance costs, such as speeding up or running a red light. However, unlike in other states, it can be expelled without cause or other suspicion.

Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania windshield obstacle is covered under Title 75, Ã,§4524: "Obstruction in the windshield • No one drove a motor vehicle with marks, posters or other non-transparent material on the windshield that materially obstructs, obscures or damages the driver, a clear view of highway or intersecting highway except the inspection certificate, a sticker identification mark on the mass transit vehicle or the official sticker required... ". Subdivision f provides exceptions to police videos and audio recording equipment, which also frees the police from the two-sided Philadelphia criminal recording legislation; all other civilian devices, including audio recorder dashboards and smartphones, are illegal.
