The University of Arkansas in Little Rock ( UA Little Rock , formerly UALR ) is a metropolitan public research university located in Little Rock, Arkansas, United Union. Established as a Little Rock Junior College by the Little Rock School District in 1927, the institute became a private four-year university under the name Little Rock University in 1957. It returned to public status in 1969 when he joined the Arkansas University System under his current name.

Located on 250 acres, the UALR campus includes over 56 buildings, including the Nanotechnology Integrative Science Center, the Emerging Analysis Center, and the Sequoyah Research Center, and the Ottenheimer Library. Campus life

Student life at UALR is typical of public universities in the United States. It is characterized by student-managed organizations and affiliated groups that support social, academic, athletic and religious activities and interests. Some of the services offered by the UAL Campus Life Office are intramural exercise and fitness programs, diversity programs, leadership development, peer tutors, student government associations, student support programs including groups for non-traditional and first-generation students, newspaper-run students, and life fraternity and association. The proximity of the UALR campus to downtown Little Rock allows students to take advantage of the wide range of recreational, entertainment, educational, internship and employment opportunities that are not available elsewhere in Arkansas.

Campus life

UALR provides a range of campus residency options for students ranging from traditional residents' rooms to several bedroom apartments. The university has four residential halls on the east side of the campus and the University Village Apartments Complex on the south side of the campus. Six learning communities that focus on criminal justice, art and culture, majors and careers, future business innovators, nursing careers, and STEM are available to students.

Athletics

14 UALR athletics teams are known as Little Rock Trojans, with almost all teams participating in the Sun Belt Conference. Little Rock is one of two Sun Belt members who do not sponsor football (the other UT Arlington); The last UALR fielded a soccer team in 1955 when it was known as Little Rock Junior College. Little Rock's main athletic office is located in the Jack Stephens Center. UALR offers the following sports:

The only non-competing Little Rock teams in the Sun Belt are the swimming and ladies team; Sun Belt does not sponsor sports. The team even competed in the Missouri Valley Conference.
