Controversy
The New York City Consumer Affairs Department (DCA) filed a lawsuit against Deutch with misleading advertising that allegedly failed to include the main eligibility requirements for resolving taxes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under the Offer program under its Compromise. The Compromise Offer program allows taxpayers to settle debts by making arrangements with the IRS to reduce payments, in which the majority of people are not eligible - a fact that allegedly does not exist in Deutch advertising. In 2006, he agreed to pay $ 300,000 to settle a lawsuit for deceptive advertising practices. A total of $ 200,000 was distributed to victims affected by his deception practice, and a $ 100,000 fine.
On August 23, 2010, the California Attorney General's office announced that they would file a $ 34 million lawsuit against Deutch for allegedly "masterminding a heartless scheme 'that deceive thousands of people who face serious and expensive tax collection issues with the IRS." Roni Deutch responded accusing it by declaring California Attorney General Jerry Brown "involved in electoral politics" (Brown ran for governor in the November 2010 election at the time of the lawsuit, the election he finally won) and that he intended to fight the lawsuit.
The California court has frozen all of Roni Deutch's assets. "Tax lady" because she was known and her company sued for $ 34 million by some public attorneys.
In April 2011, the California attorney general's office asked the court to detain Roni Deutch with contempt for the court and imprison him for tearing up millions of documents and withdrawing money to pay off other extraordinary debts. In May 2011, his lawyer requested to be excluded from the case for not paying.
The prosecutor stated that instead of paying the creditor and former client, per recent court order, Deutch withdrew $ 241,000 from his bank account and used the money for personal expenses, while it failed to pay $ 435,000 in payments to the fraud victim alleged to him.
On August 7, 2015, the Prosecutor General's Office announced the completion of civil and criminal action against Deutch. As per the terms of the settlement, the state of California withdraws its criminal charges against the lawsuits and dismisses a civil suit. In return, Deutch agreed to pay a $ 2.5 million fine and do 350 volunteer hours.
