The New York State Consolidation Law is a permanent code of New York common law imposed by the New York State Legislature.
It consists of several chapters, or laws. New York uses a system called "sustainable codification" in which each session law clearly identifies the law and parts of the Consolidated Act impacted by its share. Unlike the original code, Consolidation Law is systematic but not comprehensive or preemptive, and references to other laws and legal matters are often required. The Consolidation Law was printed by New York only once in 1909-1910, but there are 3 comprehensive and certified private commercial versions. The law can be found online without comment.
There are also non-consolidated laws, such as various court actions. Unconsolidated laws are not recognized, usually due to their local nature, but legally binding. Legal sessions are published in Laws of New York .
