Histori

Jones Day was founded as Blandin & amp; Rice in 1893 by two partners, Edwin J. Blandin and William Lowe Rice, in Cleveland, Ohio. Frank Ginn joined the company in 1899, and changed its name to Blandin, Rice & amp; Ginn. Rice was assassinated in August 1910, and in 1912 Thomas H. Hogsett joined the company as a partner. Company becomes Blandin, Hogsett & amp; Ginn that year, and Tolles, Hogsett, Ginn & amp; Morley a year later after the retirement of Judge Blandin and the addition of partners Sheldon H. Tolles and John C. Morley. After Morley retired in 1928, the company adopted the name Tolles, Hogsett & amp; Ginn.

In the early years, the company was known to represent major industries in the Cleveland area, including Standard Oil and some railroad and utility companies.

In November 1938, the later managing partner Thomas Jones led the merger of Tolles, Hogsett & amp; Ginn with a company focused on Day, Young, Veach & amp; LeFever to make Jones, Day, Cockley & amp; Reavis. This merger was effective January 1, 1939. The Washington Office, D.C., the company opened in 1946, became the company's first offices outside of Ohio. In 1967, the company merged with the company Pogue & amp; D.C. Neal being Jones, Day, Reavis & amp; Pogue.

International expansion

Jones Day's international expansion began in 1986 when the company merged with Surrey's boutique & amp; Morse, a company of 75 attorneys with international offices in New York City, Paris, London, and Washington, D.C. In subsequent years the company expanded to Hong Kong, Brussels, Tokyo, Taipei, and Frankfurt.

Recent years

In 2013, Jones Day is the largest American law firm, with more than 2,400 lawyers and 800 partners.

Jones Jones Day partner Don McGahn, formerly a member of the Federal Electoral Commission, served as an advisor to President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and was later nominated to serve as White Trump House Advisor. At least 14 Attorney Days Jones has been appointed to work for the Trump administration in March 2017.

Compensation

Jones Day is proud of its compensation structure. Unlike many of its peers, Jones Day does not pay year-end or mid-year bonuses and instead compensates all employees with pay. Salaries are not common and salaries are not determined by the lesson year. Instead, the company compensates each partner (after the first year) on the basis of the quality of his work and jurisdiction. The company has long claimed that this "black box" compensation system breeds collegiality and that its peers - even if they are not paid bonuses - generally earn the same as or more than their counterparts in other big companies. However, the partners claim that they lack compensation, sometimes by tens of thousands of dollars, compared to their counterparts in other companies and that their compensation is much lower than what was promised when they were interviewed.
